The brief
Dorval Construction does premium renovation work — tile, hardwood, custom decks, kitchens, bathrooms. The client wanted a site that matched the quality of the finished product: clean, professional, no stock photo contractor clichés.
The previous site was a WordPress theme that looked like every other contractor in the city. The goal was to stand out in local search while giving potential clients something that builds confidence before they ever pick up the phone.
What we built
A single-page marketing site with a strong visual focus on project photography. Structure:
- Hero — full-bleed project photo with a clear value prop and CTA
- Services — each service category (tile, hardwood, decks, kitchens/baths) with a brief description and an image
- Gallery — a masonry grid of project photos
- Contact form — Lambda-backed, sends directly to the client's email via SES
Key decisions
Local SEO from day one: The site includes LocalBusiness JSON-LD schema with the service area, hreflang for English-only, and the contact page structured to surface the phone number prominently in mobile search results.
No WordPress, no plugins: The old site had 14 active plugins and was getting hit by bots scanning for known CVEs. The new site is static HTML — there's nothing to exploit.
Image optimization: Every project photo went through conversion to WebP with responsive srcset values. The old site was loading 3 MB JPEGs on mobile. The new site's images average 120 KB.
Outcome
Dorval Construction ranks in the top 3 Google local results for several renovation-related searches in their service area. The client reports that roughly 60% of new inquiries now mention finding them online — up from near zero before the site launch.
